Interview with Sergio Ines, What My Boyfriend Wore

We had a chat with Sergio Ines from What My Boyfriend Wore. What My Boyfriend Wore is a men's fashion diary with a difference. You will find the where, what and how of men's style as well as the fun finds of living a gentleman’s life on the tip of Africa!

Do you want to just tell us a bit about your background and your journey thus far? How did you get started with What My Boyfriend Wore?

What My Boyfriend Wore is a hobby I picked up about 3 years ago. A girl I was dating had a blog and thought I should start my own to share my passion for menswear. The rest as they say is history, the blog and Instagram account seemed to be very well received - within a year I had placed second in South African GQ's best dressed and this year, British GQ had me as one of their top 10 best dressed men on Instagram.  I started having no real training or connection to the fashion world, in fact I work full time as a creative director in an ad agency.

What are 3 items you think every guy should have in their wardrobe?

Dark indigo denims, a crisp white shirt and a navy blazer! They go with anything else you may have and even all go together.

I heard you say that you somewhat wish you had a boring corporate job so you could wear a suit more often. Do you have a favourite style of suit, and is there a particular brand you like the most?

I tend not to have favourites in anything really, it's weird. I judge everything on fit, and will always get the cheapest suit with the best fit, I'm not particularly bothered about designer or brands, the perfect fit always looks expensive!

You have travelled to some pretty amazing places, do you have a favourite? Also, where's top of your travel bucket list and why?

Once again no favourites but I am very fond of the far east, I love the complete culture shock I get every time I arrive. I'm actually heading to one of my bucket lists places in a few weeks, Tokyo Japan! Next up will be South America, I've had this urge to visit Bueno Aires for about 5 years now, it's definitely next on the list!
